"please say your name" - "please say your policy number" - "errr -i don't know, um wait a minute" mumbled bob, "you are calling from 01xxx xxxxxxx" please press one if this is correct, "your call back request has been accepted". phew, that was a bit exhausting thought bob. thinking it would be a good idea to change the number plate to his personal plate to save an additional change to the insurance policy, bob logged on to the dvla site. it was all going so well, bob had changed the plates on the car, entered all the bumph off the registration document and even got to the prompt to exchange the numbers. then it all went pear shaped. "there doesn't appear to be a registered keeper for this vehicle" it said. "there bloody well is" shouted bob at the computer, "it's here in my hand". any way there is no point in shouting at a computer so bob tried the on line chat option again. this time it worked, there appears to be a person on the other end. bob provided all the information that he asked for and in the end he said, "there doesn't appear to be a registered keeper for this vehicle". what a bloody einstein! "you need to register yourself as the keeper by post" said the chatman. bob explained that it is a pain in the arse having to change insurance details 4 times just to move a registration from one vehicle to another, "and by the way i can't tell you that i am no longer the keeper of my old car. i have to provide the number of the v5c which i don't have - how silly is that?" said bob. "we have to have that number for security reasons" he said, "otherwise anybody could change registration details". what a load of old bollocks that is. they know my name, date of birth, where i live, my driving licence number, i even have a login to the government gateway for god's sake, all of which i could provide, but oh no, they need a number off a poxy piece of paper that i don't have and have no way of obtaining. it's bloody ridiculous, bob typed in "never mind, i give up. i'm off to buy a carrier pigeon". inside bob's new car bob changed the plates on the car back to the original ones and then received his call back from the insurance company. bob explained that the web site didn't appear to be working, but that he now had several e-mails saying that his details had been received. "i assume that means it is all done then" said bob. "oh no" said the guy on the phone, "it takes several days to do it on line" - "you have to wait for an e-mail and then"..."can we just do it on the phone then?" interrupted bob. "oh yes he said, it's much better if you phone us". bob bit his tongue until it bled trying not to mention what the lady on the phone had said about all the on line services he could use to avoid calling on the telephone. at least this guy was honest and getting the job done. so the old dvla is much the same as it was back in 2013 when bob had his last rant on the subject here . there is an on line shop window, but the rest of it is still paper based twaddle relying on the old welsh pit pony for communication. it seems the same can be said for the insurance company too. why they can't just validate who you are and let you update the records directly i have no idea. i expect they need to employ people to put the incorrect details in to keep the economy going. posted by bob the hamster in bob's rants at 17:03 | comments (0) | trackbacks (0) -- tuesday, january 2. 2018 pimping our ride - part 2 the rear panel before now that the front side panels and new carpet have been installed, bob's attention falls onto the rear. here there is a broken panel and armrest and a lot of vinyl tape. the aluminium panels were removed and recovered in leatherette vinyl as before, using the same materials that we used in the front. a little searching around produced some useful aluminium angle brackets to support the old broken armrest. the holes were filled with car body filler and the whole lot refitted, including the armrests. a worthwhile investment of a few hours over the christmas holiday. the rear panel after posted by bob the hamster at 15:21 | comments (0) | trackbacks (0) -- tuesday, december 5. 2017 pimping our ride old side panel covering - looking a bit tired it is miss piggy's 40th birthday some time this year, so it is only right that we give her something to make her look a bit younger. on this occasion it is a bit of an internal spruce up with new carpet and revamped side panels. the carpet was easy enough, we bought some new carpet and a 10mm snap (or press-stud) kit from e-bay. fortunately the new snaps fitted the studs that were already installed in the aeroplane, so it was simply a case of cutting the carpet to fit and putting the snaps in the right place. the plastic heel guards were then stuck to the carpet with carpet glue. the carpet also goes up the side stuck on to the aluminium side plates and covers; again with the miracle of carpet glue. refurbished side panel the next challenge was to recover the side panels. these were originally covered
